"What Kind Of Monsters Are We Living With?" — Boy Flings Cat From 22nd Floor Of Apartment
He lured the old cat up to the 22nd floor, before throwing it out the window.
Disturbing footage of a young boy throwing a cat out of a window at a Housing and Development Board (HDB) flat in Boon Lay Avenue, Singapore, has incited rage among animal lovers
The incident occurred around 1:35pm on 14 December, as indicated on the footage of the flat’s closed circuit television (CCTV).
In the video, the boy, who is believed to be of primary school age, is seen walking out of a lift with a black cat. He proceeds to pick up the feline and makes a beeline for the window, but then hesitates and sets it back down, looking around nervously for witnesses.
With no one in sight, the boy picks the cat up again and flings it out the window, before walking away and attempting to look nonchalant. Three seconds later, a loud bang is heard.
The young perpetrator then presses the elevator button, wandering around in circles as he waits for it to arrive on his floor. At one point, he glances back out the window.
Unfortunately, the cat did not survive the fall.
The SPCA Singapore and Cat Welfare Society (CWS) have since made statements about the boy's act on Facebook
In a Facebook post, SPCA Singapore announced that they have escalated the incident to the authorities, adding that they were "deeply disturbed by the actions captured in the footage".
Meanwhile, CWS stated that they had assisted the cat's caregivers in filing an Animal & Veterinary Service (AVS) report, and linked them to investigating officers. The caregivers have also since filed a police report.
"We recognise the need to prevent future incidents like this from taking place again and CWS will continue to engage the authorities on possible approaches to take," they said.
According to Singapore Uncensored, the boy has been caught, and the case is currently under investigation by the Singaporean authorities and AVS.
Separately, a change.org petition was also set up to raise awareness on the crime and encourage authorities to take punitive action against the young boy
The creator of the petition stated that the cat was an "old, docile community cat", well-known by the residents of Boon Lay Avenue.
"What kind of monsters are we living with?" they said.
6,500 signatures have been accumulated as of writing this, and the number is continuing to grow rapidly.
Many who signed the petition argued that the boy's young age did not exempt him from the consequences of his actions.
