"Abah! Abah! Abah!" – Boy Screams For His Father Before Drowning In Kedah
Suhaimi's anguished cries moved many people yesterday, 15 December, and he was also hugged and calmed down by fire officials.
A 12-year-old boy screamed for his father during his final moments before drowning in Sungai Korok, Kedah
"Abah! Abah! Abah!" was the only word Muhammad Khairul Muhaimin could shout when his father's car swayed left and right before plunging and flipping into the river, reported Kosmo.
Muhammad Khairul was discovered to have died from drowning after becoming trapped in a Proton Saga driven by his father, 37-year-old Suhaimi Hassan, that had sunk in the river around 2.20pm yesterday, 15 December.
Muhammad Khairul's parents both survived but Suhaimi is still experiencing pain in the back of his body, while his wife, Nurul Aqmar Zainol, 35, was slightly injured from the accident
Suhaimi said that while driving down a straight road, he felt as if his car was being pulled to the right, causing him to turn the steering wheel to the left.
"The car then swerved left and right several times before crashing into the river. My wife and I were able to escape through the window before the car completely submerged," said the father.
"I kept thinking of Muhammad Khairul while carrying my seven-month pregnant wife up the cliff. I turned and jumped into the river, but the car vanished and sank to the bottom of the river."
He went on to say that there was nothing else that he could do but ask for help from passersby after his vehicle sunk.
Suhaimi's anguished cries moved many people yesterday, and he was also hugged and calmed down by fire officials who arrived at the scene as soon as his son's body was discovered
Aside from Muhammad Khairul, the couple has two other children, ages nine and two, who were not on the trip at the time of the incident.
Suhaimi explained that the three of them were on their way from their mother-in-law's house in Tanjung Kapur to buy baby milk at Pekan Jitra at the time of the incident.
The father expressed his disappointment in not being able to save his son.
"My phone was broken, and I didn't have time to tell my relatives about the incident because they were coming to visit," he explained.
He added that after the post-mortem process is completed, the body of the deceased, who was also a student at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Bukit Payung in Pokok Sena, will be buried in Tanjung Kapur.
