Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh today, 31 January, addressed the issue surrounding Malaysian women's field hockey player Hanis Nadiah Onn, who had earlier left a racist comment against Indians

According to Yeoh, she has instructed the National Sports Council (MSN) to conduct an investigation into the 26-year-old for her comment in which she used the racial slur "smelly" to describe Malaysian Indians.

Speaking during a press conference, the minister told reporters that she has also asked the MSN to obtain information from the Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) to assist in the investigation into the matter.

Yeoh said that the ministry will wait for the council and confederation's update before announcing any action against the hockey player

"Once I get the feedback and opinions from MSN, we will make a formal decision," she said.

According to her, MSN and MHC will discuss the matter today.
