Malaysia's national badminton team has bagged the nation's third gold medal at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games today, 3 August

According to New Straits Times, the shuttlers emerged victorious after defeating defending champions, India, 3-1 in the mixed team final.

The mixed team event consists of five matches: women's singles, men's singles, mixed doubles, women's doubles, and men's doubles

The team that wins three out of the five matches wins the event.

In the first match, Tokyo 2020 Olympic bronze medalists Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik set the tone by beating India's top doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty 21-18, 21-15.

This was followed by women's singles shuttler Goh Jin Wei, who went down fighting 22-20, 21-17 to PV Sindhu, missing the team's only point to India.

Men's singles Ng Tze Yong later defied the odds to stun World Championships silver medallist Srikanth Kidambi in an amazing three-match battle, winning 21-19, 8-21, 21-16.

National women's doubles Pearly Tan-Thinaah Muralitharan then sealed the deal and took home the mixed team gold medal by defeating Treesa Jolly-Gayatri Pullela 21-18, 21-17.
