Her eyes twinkled at the mention of scaling Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. This will be the next summit for young Felda mountaineer Siti Hanisah Sharudin to conquer.

Siti Hanisah, 23, from the Felda Jelai 1 scheme in Gemas, Negeri Sembilan, is expected to take six days to climb Africa’s tallest mountain at 5,895 metres accompanied by coach Zainudin Lot.

However, she added she would not climb the mountain alone as she would join a group of international climbers upon arrival at Tanzania.

She said the ascent of Kilimanjaro, which stands at 5,895m, would take about six days to complete and would pose different challenges than Everest.

Malaysia’s youngest female climber to conquer the world’s highest peak has set her sights on reaching the top of the world’s seven tallest summits. And it is 2 down, 5 to go for Siti Hanisah Sharuddin, 23, who scaled Mount Everest 5 months ago and Russia’s Mount Elbrus last year.

Her goal is to become the first woman and the youngest person to conquer all the Seven Summits – something she hopes will be part of her resume by Jan 15, 2015.

The other major mountains that she would scale after Kilimanjaro are Aconcagua, Mendoza, Argentina; Mount McKinley, America; Carstensz Pyramid, Indonesia; and Visson Massif, Antartica.

KE7B president Muhamad Muqharabbin Mokhtarrudin said Siti Hanisah was expected to continue the mission by climbing Mount McKinley (6,194 metres) in North America and Aconcagua (6,960.8 metres) in South America by the year- end.

"I am excited and thrilled to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. The trek is going to be different this time as I will not be facing ice, but wild forestation," Siti Hanisah said at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport yesterday.

“I will have to cross a lava field on this climb. However, the actual challenge is a 10km rock-strewn route to reach the top. “I also have to be careful to avoid food poisoning,” she said.

“My dream for this mission is to be an inspiration to my friends and fellow Malaysians by helping them to believe that anything is possible. “I would like to inspire other women and prove that we can do what men can do,” Siti Hanisah said before boarding a flight for Tanzania yesterday.

Siti Hanisah yang merupakan anggota Tentera Laut Diraja Malaysia menjalani latihan berterusan sejak pulang daripada pendakian Gunung Everest termasuk latihan kecergasan di gim untuk mengekalkan kecegasan dan stamina diri.

Siti Hanisah said her preparation for the Mount Kilimanjaro climb had been ongoing. "I have been training and strengthening my fitness since I came back from Mount Everest. The training never stopped as maintaining fitness is important for us mountaineers."

She is also a member of the Seven Continents Exploration Club (KE7B) and was the team leader for the Everest-Felda 2013 project organised by the club, which involved six other Felda climbers.

Muhamad Muqharabbin Mokhtar­rudin, president and founder of Kelab Eksplorasi 7 Benua Malaysia which organised the mission, said Siti Hanisah and her coach, Zainuddin Lot were expected to make the Kilimanjaro ascend within a week.

“Hanisah has the talent to go far as she is very disciplined, humble and willing to learn. She has the ability to motivate and inspire others in spite of her modest background.

“Apart from endurance and strength training, we have also ensured that she is mentally and spiritually prepared to complete the mission,” said Muhamad, a mountaineer himself who completed the Seven Summits climb last year.

"Beliau dipilih menyertai misi ini kerana beliau seorang yang berdisplin tinggi dan berpotensi. Ini akan membuktikan wanita juga mampu melakukan aktiviti sukan lasak yang lazimnya dikuasai lelaki," kata beliau yang juga pendaki Everest 2004.
