Apple has acknowledged hardware defects affecting the primary foldable display on its flagship iPhone Duo after early adopters reported severe screen cracking within hours of unboxing

The issue surfaced just as global deliveries of the premium USD2,000 (RM8,174) smartphone began reaching retail customers, according to Bloomberg.

Several early buyers reported visible display fractures along the folding crease, sharing photographs on social media showing horizontal cracks and broken inner panels despite gentle handling.

The Cupertino-based tech giant has confirmed an internal investigation into the matter, acknowledging that the problem affects a subset of units

"We are aware of an issue impacting the inner display on a small number of iPhone Duo units," Apple said in a statement.

"If users experience issues with their iPhone Duo display, they should contact AppleCare for a replacement."

The initial warnings emerged on 26 October after Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman documented multiple complaints from iPhone Duo owners whose screens developed hairline fractures and panel failures almost immediately after initial setup

Gurman noted that while Apple's engineering teams began technical evaluations, the company initially provided frontline retail staff and AppleCare representatives with no specific operational guidance on handling walk-in warranty claims.

The company has not disclosed the total number of affected units or clarified the cause of the cracks

It remains unclear whether the cracking stems from a hinge tolerance defect, protective film delamination, or a deeper manufacturing flaw in the ultra-thin flexible display substrate.

For now, Apple is directing all affected iPhone Duo owners to schedule service appointments through official AppleCare channels to obtain warranty replacements.
