Apple has altered a promotional image for its newly unveiled OLED iPad mini in South Korea, removing a featured hand to avoid a cultural backlash over a contentious hand gesture linked to gender tensions
The Cupertino-based technology firm launched the device to showcase its slim 5.4mm chassis.
To illustrate the slender form factor, global promotional material depicted a hand grasping the tablet between a thumb and index finger.
While the visual remains active in primary international markets, including the US, China, and Malaysia, the company opted for a quiet modification on its official South Korean regional portal.

The modification stems from local sensitivities surrounding the pinching hand pose.
Often termed the "crab hand" across domestic online forums, the two-finger pinching motion has frequently been deployed by radical feminist groups as a derogatory meme targeting the size of South Korean men's genitalia.
Apple exercised caution with earlier product rollouts
When marketing the ultra-thin iPhone Air in 2025, the company likewise removed fingers from its regional South Korean promotional graphics whilst keeping the original imagery unchanged across overseas storefronts.
