The iPhone 4 had 3.5-inch screen. The iPhone 5 got 4 inches of real estate. Now if reports are to be believed, Apple is aiming even bigger.

As per market reports and rumours, Apple could launch iPhone 6 next year in summers.

In a research note, Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster said he expects Apple’s sixth-generation iPhone to come with ‘a larger screen option’, adding that it could be a ‘blockbuster’.

According to the New York Post, the news of early release of iPhone 6 is good news for the phone lovers and potentially for Apple shareholders.

The stock has been sagging over the last 12 months amid slumping sales growth and could use a boost from a ‘blockbuster’ product.

Last quarter, Apple eked out revenues of 35 billion dollars, which were flat from a year earlier.

In addition to the ‘blockbuster’ iPhone 6, Apple could also release brand new products like a watch and television, the report added.

If reports are to be believed, Apple is working on an iPhone with a 4.8-inch screen, a 20% increase in screen size from the newest iPhones

A new report from well-respected Apple analyst Peter Misek on Monday suggested that Apple’s next-generation iPhone 6 will sport a larger 4.8-inch display.

The addition of a bigger screen on Apple’s next iPhone would be a pretty huge deal for Apple, and it would also be a direct response to the larger screens that are now commonplace on Android-powered iPhone rivals.

This model is scheduled to be launched in September next year and will be named iPhone 6, said Misek. His sources also said that Apple is getting favourable pricing for components from suppliers.

Though the analyst did not disclose the reason behind his prediction, he mentioned in his note that the new screen size would drive a huge number of upgrades.

Misek in his research note wrote, "We think the 85 million iPhones eligible for an upgrade when the iPhone 6 launches (we think Apple is targeting Sep 2014) could be boosted by another 5-10 million from people who skipped the iPhone 5S/5C cycle."

Reports have emerged that Apple is testing a phone with a 6-inch screen for release next year

As Apple prepares to unveil both a new high-end iPhone and a cheaper version for the first time next week, it is already working on something bigger.

wsj.com

The electronics giant has begun evaluating a plan to offer iPhones with screens ranging from 4.8 inches to as high as 6 inches, people familiar with the matter say.

That would be a sizable leap from the 4-inch screen of the iPhone 5 released last year, and would be one of the largest on the market. Such plans signal further that Apple is shifting its smartphone strategy as it searches for new engines of growth, and as competition with Samsung intensifies.

csmonitor.com

"[P]eople familiar with the company's internal deliberations and plans indicate it appears more willing to move ahead [with a larger iPhone] than in years past," the WSJ reports. "Component suppliers say Apple already began testing larger screens for iPhones in recent months. Apple has been particularly interested in recent tests for a 4.8-inch screen, these people say."
