Singaporean tech company Creative recently sent a review unit for the Creative Outlier Pro — their latest true wireless earbuds, and I got to try it out

When it comes to earbuds, different people look for different things. Working bees who are always rushing to calls and meetings would look for one that connects easily to their phone and offers good call quality.

For people who love listening to music, they may look for one that better suits their music taste. Those who are into deeper-sounding music may look for bass while those who are into higher-sounding frequencies may opt for treble-focused earbuds.

So with that in mind — where does the Creative Outlier Pro stand?

The Creative Outlier Pro provides true wireless experience earbuds packed with a bunch of benefits such as Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) and bigger battery life

Out of the box, they come with the earbuds themselves, the charging case, three extra silicone earbud tips, a USB-C charging cable, and a quick start guide.

But before I get into detail about my experience with it, let's take a look at the specs:

Colour: Metallic Umber
Bluetooth Type: Bluetooth 5.2
Wireless Frequency: 2.4 Ghz
Voice Assistant Support: Siri and Google Assistant
Playtime: Up to 15 hours (per charge), Up to 60 hours (total)
Charging Interface: Qi Compatible Wireless Charging, USB-C
Charging Time: 2-3 hours
Waterproof IP Rating: IPX5

Now, I'll list down the things I liked about the Creative Outlier Pro

1. They're True Wireless Earbuds (TWS) that offer a comfortable fit

The Creative Outlier Pro are true wireless in-ear earbuds designed for work and entertainment. As I am typing away on my keyboard, I'm actually using the Creative Outlier Pro to listen to some of my favourite tunes from Spotify — and I must say it's a pretty pleasant experience.

In addition to that, it also comes with three extra silicone ear tips in small, medium and large, so you can find the perfect fit.

Another cool thing about Creative earbuds is that they're IPX5 sweatproof. When I used it for my run the other day, I noticed that the comfort did not decline. Even after an exhaustive run, the earbuds did not fall of my ears even once - keeping me motivated and inspired to finish off that extra lap!

2. They have a personalised app experience

One of the unique selling points of these earbuds is that they're integrated alongside Creative's personal app too. Also a plus point — you don't need to go through the hassle of signing up to use the app.

The Creative app provides three primary features for the average Creative Outlier Pro user, which are:

Equaliser: To set up your audio preferences, whether you prefer deep bass or high treble

Noise Control: To switch on/off Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) and Ambient sounds

Custom Buttons: To customise the placement of your earbuds' touch controls

3. They have bass for days

For the average Joe — the Creative Outlier Pro will probably feel like well-rounded earbuds. And for the most part, they are! But after trying out different kinds of music, it was really clear that they meant for the bass to shine.

So if you're someone who deeply enjoys more explosive types of music genres like EDM and Rock, you'll get the most out of these earbuds.

4. The battery life is fantastic

Another great selling point to these excellent earbuds is the battery life. From just a single charge, the buds can last up to 15 hours. That's 60 hours of worth of playback time when combined together with the charging case's 45-hour battery life.

That is a lot of playback time for a single session. After initial testing, I also noticed that you don't even need to charge the earbuds for that long before popping them in again. A quick 15 to 20 minute charge is sufficient for a two-hour use of the earbuds without Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) turned on.

So you can expect to spend long hours of listening to your music with these buds without interruption.

5. Their Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) is more than just a snazzy feature

Retailing at US$68 (approximately RM298) on the Creative online store — you can expect to find one of the best Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) features through these earbuds at a relatively affordable price.

Amid testing in a wide variety of locations - from bustling city streets, quiet parks, to neutral bedrooms, the ANC was quite successful in blocking out most of the sounds.

However, if you don't want to be fully muted out from the world around you - the Ambient feature is an excellent alternative.

As great as the Creative Outlier Pro is, there are a few things to take note of

The battery case is quite bulky. It is quite difficult to lug it around if you're on the prowl along the city streets or if you're out for a run. So it might benefit you better to hold on to a small bag when you're outdoors.

In addition to that, the overall sound is slightly muddy when the volume is up or when vocals are involved. You may need to tweak the equaliser settings on the Creative app for an optimal listening experience.

All in all, the Creative Outlier Pro is a beast of a device at its price. But is it for everyone?

I'd say — if you're in the market for comfortable, convenient, and customisable earbuds packed with quality features like Active Noise Cancelling and long battery life without breaking the bank, you can't go wrong with the Creative Outlier Pro.
