Grab is trialling 'Carri', a robot designed to help its delivery partners navigate shopping malls across Malaysia
'Carri' was unveiled by co-founder and chief executive officer Anthony Tan at the company's annual Grab X 2026 event in Jakarta, Indonesia yesterday, 8 April.
Grab believes 'Carri' could cut riders' time wastage by 10%.
The robot was revealed alongside 13 new AI-powered features designed to make life easier for Grab app users.

The robot is currently being trialled to help food delivery partners navigate shopping centres while collecting and delivering orders
Tan explained that the move aims to streamline the delivery process rather than replace human workers.
'Carri' is developed for both indoor and outdoor environments.
The internal development team at Grab confirmed that the robot is already capable of performing both tasks.

'Carri' uses artificial intelligence (AI) for mapping, navigation, and obstacle avoidance
It is equipped with Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) sensors and cameras to avoid obstacles and navigate through crowds.
A digital panel is located on the back of the robot to provide information.
It also features secure storage compartments that only open for the specific user assigned to that order.

During a live demonstration at Grab X 2026, the robot operated throughout the day without any battery or travel issues
Grab is also developing security features to protect the hardware from vandalism or serious damage.
By handling the "last mile" within complex shopping centres, the robot allows delivery partners to focus on more trips. This setup could potentially increase their overall earnings by freeing them from walking through large buildings.
The project is currently in the testing and development phase. Grab has yet to confirm how the payment model will function or if Grab will absorb the robot's operational costs.
