Perak Students Build Smart Headset For The Visually Impaired, Win RM47,000 From Samsung

A group of students from MRSM Bagan Datuk, Perak, took home the top prize at the recently held Samsung Solve for Tomorrow 2026 competition

The teenagers from Team InnovateZ built a smart headset called TheVisionSense, which uses LiDAR and ultrasound sensors to detect physical obstacles.

The wearable device sends real-time audio alerts to help users navigate their surroundings safely and independently.

Their practical application of science earned the team Samsung products worth up to RM47,000 as the grand prize on 27 October

"Being able to achieve first place makes us really happy, especially after all the challenges we faced throughout the journey," Team InnovateZ shared.

"We don't hear as much about solutions for people with visual impairments, and that inspired us to create this headset to help them," they added.

The team hopes their victory will inspire future generations to put Malaysia on the global technology map.

"Finally achieving what we had worked so hard for made us feel that all our efforts were worth it," the team continued.

"We hope future generations will come up with even more exciting and powerful ideas, and help make Malaysia better known around the world through technology and innovation."

Other bright minds also shone, with Team iSafePath securing second place and RM30,000 for their adaptive pedestrian safety platform

Team Replast secured third place with sustainable bricks made entirely from recycled plastic waste.

They took home RM19,000 worth of tech products, while Team EcoTerraNitro and Team Primates secured fourth and fifth place, respectively.

Organised in collaboration with Universiti Malaya, the programme attracted 106 ideas focused on health, education, and sustainability.
