Google has launched a new range of artificial intelligence tools and discounted subscription offers for university students in Malaysia ahead of the upcoming back-to-school season
The initiative is aimed at helping students to tackle complex coursework, organise their study schedules, and better understand academic concepts.
As part of the global rollout across more than 140 countries, eligible tertiary students in Malaysia can get a 12-month Google AI Plus subscription for free
The free plan unlocks Gemini Omni, allowing users to interact using voice, text, or video inputs, while providing expanded usage limits during peak exam periods and 400GB of cloud storage for research files and other academic materials.
For users who need more computing capacity, Google is offering the premium Google AI Pro plan at a heavily discounted rate of RM23.99 per month, down from its standard price of RM97.99.
This upgraded tier includes four times higher usage limits in Gemini, AI integration across Google Workspace apps such as Gmail and Google Docs, 5TB of cloud storage, and YouTube Premium Lite.
Students seeking an entertainment bundle can opt for Google AI Pro bundled with full YouTube Premium for RM33.49 per month, reduced from RM118.89 per month.
Google is also integrating several personalised study features directly into Search, Gemini, and Google Classroom
A new Study Notebooks feature turns diagnostic quizzes into bite-sized study plans, while interactive 3D visualisations and Gemini Live can help students prepare for oral examinations and interviews.
Active learning tools such as Practice Quizzes and Google Lens' 'Check My Work' guide users through complex equations and problem sets step by step, ensuring they understand core concepts rather than simply receiving direct answers.
Guided Learning tools have also been built into Google Classroom, allowing educators to effectively support and track student progress.
The back-to-school promotional offers are available for student redemption on Google's official portal until 31 December
