Instagram Will Hide Number Of 'Likes' On Posts So People Stop Being Obsessive
"[We] want your followers to focus on the photos and videos you share, not how many likes they get."
In an effort to create a "less pressurised" environment for users, Instagram announced that it will be testing a new update which hides the number of 'likes' on posts
The company made the announcement at the F8's conference on Tuesday, 30 April, adding that it will be testing out the feature later this week.
"We are testing this because we want your followers to focus on the photos and videos you share, not how many likes they get," an Instagram spokesperson said, according to CNN.
With the new feature, users will be able to see the numbers on their own posts.
However, they will not be able to see the number of 'likes' on other people's content.
"We don't want Instagram to feel like a competition," said Instagram head, Adam Mosseri, CNBC reported.
The latest update will be tested in Canada first.
At the conference, Instagram also announced that it is finding a way to combat online bullying, a common problem among young users today.
According to the report, the company intends to create an additional feature that would nudge users if an aggressive comment was made on a post.
