OMODA & JAECOO Malaysia has launched the JAECOO J5 EV, marking its first step into full electric mobility in the country
Positioned as a premium B-segment electric SUV, the locally assembled model enters the market with a starting price of RM118,800 on the road, excluding insurance.

The JAECOO J5 EV packs a punch, making daily drives fun and easy
The J5 EV features a front electric motor producing 155kW of power and 288Nm of torque. This responsive setup allows the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 7.7 seconds, allowing swift manoeuvres in traffic a breeze.
A 58.9kWh lithium iron phosphate battery supplied by CATL offers a driving range of up to 461km on a single charge. For regular home charging, the vehicle supports 11kW AC power, taking about seven hours to complete a full charge.
Practicality is one of its strong suits
The SUV boasts 174mm of ground clearance and a 450mm wading depth, helping drivers manage rough road conditions and sudden flash floods with confidence.

Inside, the cabin includes a 1.45m panoramic glass roof, a 35-litre front trunk, and 480 litres of rear cargo space (expandable to 1,284 litres with folded seats).
Tailored for active lifestyles, the model also features a 3.3kW Vehicle-to-Load power output to run external appliances during outdoor trips, alongside dedicated Pet and Camping modes.

It's also packed with many safety features
Safety features include a 540-degree HD surround-view camera system, a high-rigidity body frame, and 19 Level 2+ Advanced Driver-Assistance System features.
Key active safety tools cover Autonomous Emergency Braking, Full-Speed Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist, and Blind Spot Detection.
The vehicle is assembled locally under the Completely Knocked Down (CKD) initiative at the Chery Corporate Malaysia plant in Shah Alam
This move mirrors similar EV assembly projects across Southeast Asia, where brands are building vehicles locally to make electric mobility more accessible to everyday drivers.

To build customer trust, the brand offers a seven-year or 150,000km vehicle warranty alongside a 10-year or 200,000km high-voltage battery warranty
Owners have access to an EV-ready network of 56 showrooms and 53 service centres nationwide. The first 1,000 buyers will receive a launch package worth RM10,000, including one year of free insurance, a 7kW home charger, lifestyle accessories, and one year of unlimited charging credits on the JomCharge network.
Customer deliveries are scheduled to begin by 31 October 2026.
