A 73-year-old grandmother from Japan became an unlikely esports champion after winning a national Tekken 8 tournament, despite having no prior video game experience
Yoshie Murabe competed using the character Panda simply because she likes the animal.
According to Tokyo Weekender, her choice led her to victory in the Amigo Club Cup Tekken 8 Finals.
The tournament, organised by the Care e-Sports Association, featured players aged 60 to 90 from various nursing homes across Japan, all competing online.
Murabe, who had never picked up a gaming controller before, was given a month to train with other participants
Her win has since gone viral, capturing the hearts of the gaming community and beyond.
Following her victory, Murabe said, "I was happy to win," adding that her only thought during the matches was to be crowned champion.
The event highlights a growing movement towards making gaming more inclusive, demonstrating that passion and dedication can triumph over age and inexperience.
