A luxury electric vehicle jointly developed by Chinese carmaker JAC Group has come under fire after three separate brake pedal failures occurred during high-speed emergency stopping tests

The mechanical failures prompted the manufacturer to promise design revisions and free replacements for vehicle owners.

The defect came to light during independent testing conducted by Dongchedi, an automotive content platform owned by ByteDance

Testers subjected three Maextro V800 luxury vans to emergency braking runs, reducing from 96km/h to a dead stop, resulting in structural failures on every vehicle tested.

The first two low-mileage evaluation units suffered snapped pedals on their third and fourth test runs, respectively.

To verify whether the issue affected broader production batches, testers purchased a brand-new, factory-fresh van, which experienced an identical mechanical failure during a second test.

Video footage shared across social media platforms shows the driver stepping on the brake pedal firmly before an audible crack echoes through the cabin

The pedal mechanism instantly loses resistance and dangles at the back of the footwell. In each instance, test drivers were forced to engage the vehicle's Park gear as a makeshift emergency brake to bring the heavy electric van to a stop.

Technical analysis suggests three primary structural flaws behind the failures

Evaluators noted that the brake pedal features an unusually long lever arm, creating considerable distance between the top pivot point and the footpad, paired with inadequate bracket support and questionable material strength under heavy load.

Despite committing to replace the faulty component for concerned customers, Maextro has adopted a defensive stance

According to reports from CnEV Post, the automaker maintained that the failures occurred under "non-standard, extreme testing conditions" and insisted that the V800's braking system exceeds national transport ministry regulations.

The company added that no such incidents have been reported by customers.
