Netflix To Launch Vertical Video Feed To Help You Discover New Shows

The streaming giant is launching a vertical video feed to help users scroll through video podcasts, shows, and movies.

This move is part of a broader pivot towards artificial intelligence (AI). Following the debut of a ChatGPT-powered search tool last year, the company is now leaning further into generative AI (GenAI).

The technology is expected to refine everything from how it recommends your next binge-watch to how it actually creates content.

During a first-quarter conference call, Netflix co-CEO Gregory Peters explained that while the firm had worked on recommendations for 20 years, there was still "tremendous room" to improve

According to TechCrunch, Peters noted that new model architectures allowed the team to iterate and support different content types much more efficiently.

To accelerate this, Netflix recently acquired InterPositive, a proprietary AI company founded by actor Ben Affleck.

Co-CEO Ted Sarandos said he expected GenAI to improve the entire production process by providing artistes with better tools.

"It takes a great artist to make great art, and AI won't change that," Sarandos added.

On the business side, the company reported a massive revenue of USD12.25 billion (RM48.48 billion) for the first quarter of 2026

Profits also jumped by 83% to USD5.28 billion (RM20.90 billion).

Amid these record numbers, the company announced that co-founder Reed Hastings would leave the board of directors this summer, marking the end of an era for the streaming pioneer.

The service ended 2025 with 325 million paying subscribers and announced plans to use AI to boost its advertising suite.

Netflix is expected to generate USD3 billion (RM11.87 billion) in ad revenue this year through these new, customised formats.
