WhatsApp recently started testing out a new feature that would add an extra layer of privacy to their Communities tab

In case you didn't know, Communities on WhatsApp is a feature that lets you organise different groups under one tab.

Community admins can inform members about important updates by sending announcements, and community members can stay connected by exploring and chatting in groups that matter to them. Members can receive updates sent to the entire community and easily organise smaller discussion groups.

As useful as this feature is, the problem was that your phone number would be fully exposed to all members within the community, even strangers, which puts a damper on your privacy.

That is, until now.

Essentially, this new feature hides your phone number in Community tabs, even if you were to react to someone's message

According to WABetaInfo, this feature is called 'phone number privacy', and it is finally rolling out to more users thanks to the latest update of the app.

However, do note that this feature is only limited to the participants within a WhatsApp Community. The admin's phone number will still be visible to everyone.

The feature is currently rolling out gradually to both the iOS and Android versions of WhatsApp
