OpenAI has teamed up with Singapore's Ministry of Digital Development and Information (MDDI) to deepen the integration of frontier technology into the regional ecosystem and expand job opportunities
The AI firm committed over SGD300 million (RM930 million) to launch the "OpenAI for Singapore" initiative at its at ATx Summit on 19 May.
As part of this expansive regional roadmap, the tech giant will establish its first Applied AI Lab outside the US, creating over 200 highly technical roles locally.
The newly announced hub will focus on driving efficiency and scientific progress across critical sectors like healthcare, finance, and digital infrastructure
OpenAI will also collaborate closely with Singapore's Ministry of Education to build advanced classroom tools that provide interactive support for mother tongue language learning.
Ultimately, the initiative looks to support homegrown startups and small businesses, ensuring that the benefits of advanced utility models reach every single layer of the local economy.
OpenAI said it chose Singapore as its partner due to its strong technical talent, position as a global AI leader, and trusted institutions
"We're excited to partner with Singapore as it builds on its position as a global leader in AI," OpenAI Chief Revenue Officer Denise Dresser said in the firm's blog.
"Singapore has strong technical talent, trusted institutions, and a clear ambition to use AI to drive long-term growth and improve people's lives," he added.
OpenAI added that it now aims to widen access to its tools in Singapore and support AI talent and organisations.
