Porsche Malaysia has officially expanded its local lineup with the launch of the new all-electric Cayenne at the PETRONAS Sepang International Circuit

Debuting during the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia race weekend, the fully-electric sports SUV marks the second all-electric SUV in the brand's local portfolio.

It joins the existing combustion-engined and plug-in hybrid variants, both of which are locally assembled in Malaysia, giving local buyers three distinct powertrain options within the same iconic model family.

The new Cayenne Electric delivers numbers that directly challenge modern supercars

At the top of the range, the flagship Cayenne Turbo Electric generates up to 850kW (1,156PS) and 1,500Nm of torque when Launch Control is activated. This massive output rockets the SUV from 0 to 100km/h in just 2.5 seconds, achieving a top speed of 260km/h. For comparison, a Formula 1 car produces up to 680Nm of torque at peak power.

Drivers can also access a Push-to-Pass feature for a 10-second boost of 130kW (176PS).

Utilising an 800-volt architecture and a 113kWh high-voltage battery, the vehicle supports rapid DC fast charging at up to 400kW, charging from 10% to 80% in under 16 minutes.

Alongside its raw speed, the vehicle incorporates heavy motorsport-derived engineering, including up to 600kW of energy recuperation developed through Porsche's Formula E racing programme.

The SUV features all-wheel drive powered by electronic Porsche Traction Management, standard adaptive air suspension, and optional rear-axle steering that turns up to five degrees for enhanced agility.

The sleeker Coupé variant achieves an impressive drag coefficient of 0.23, extending its combined WLTP driving range up to 669km on a single charge.

Inside the cabin, the SUV offers the largest display area ever fitted to a Porsche model, anchored by a curved OLED Flow Display, a 14.25-inch digital instrument cluster, and an optional 14.9-inch passenger display

An optional head-up display with augmented reality projects navigation prompts visually equivalent to an 87-inch screen positioned 10m ahead of the driver.

Malaysian-specification models come equipped with additional standard features, including four-zone automatic climate control, 14-way power-adjustable comfort front seats, a BOSE Surround Sound System, and a 230V cargo socket.

We also drove both the hybrid and the petrol-powered car at Sepang's off-roading course, Bay 13

Despite the electric model being absent during our test drive, both the petrol-powered and hybrid Cayenne SUVs were present for our outing. We started our drive with the daunting obstacle course.

Kicking it off was the low-traction hill ascent where the Cayenne could showcase its Porsche Traction Management (PTM). Climbing the slippery slope proved easy for the Cayenne, as the system cleverly sends power to the wheels with maximum traction.

The Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) was also great at handling uneven terrain. Wading was another challenge that it handled perfectly well.

Then came the daunting vertical hill climb and descent. Porsche showcased its hill ascent and descent assist capability, allowing the car to hold itself on a steep climb. Descending was made simple as well as the car will crawl slowly according to the set limit without requiring pedal inputs, allowing drivers to focus on steering.

We concluded the test drive with a rather spirited drive into the trail section. The car proved to be a very comfortable ride despite the bumpy terrain of the trail, highlighting the Cayenne's luxurious and comfortable, yet capable build.

According to Porsche, all three variants of the Cayenne behave similarly under the same challenging conditions.

Here's how much each electric variant costs:

Pricing for the complete Malaysian Cayenne Electric lineup is structured as follows:

Cayenne Electric: RM699,000
Cayenne Coupé Electric: RM749,000
Cayenne S Electric: RM759,000
Cayenne S Coupé Electric: RM805,000
