The Upcoming Proton X90 Will Be The Brand's First Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle
It'll slightly lessen fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions through a small electric generator.
Proton just released some exciting details about their upcoming SUV unit, codenamed the X90
According to Carlist.my, the much-anticipated SUV from Proton is confirmed to be a mild hybrid electric vehicle (MHEV).
For those who don't know, a MHEV uses a combination of a battery and electric motor when powering the engine, and shuts it off automatically when the vehicle is idle, such as at traffic lights, as reported by US Department of Energy.
This mechanism will save fuel in the car and reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
Aside from that, the vehicle will also be sporting a seven-seater interior
It will be larger, taller, and wider than its predecessor, the Proton X70.
According to ZigWheels, the MHEV will sport a lot of modern features, such as a built-in Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a digital driver display, and an ambient lighting system.
Under the hood, it is expected that the SUV will feature different variants, including a 1.5-litre or 1.8-litre engine option.
The Proton X90 will be designed based on the Geely Haoyue, an SUV manufactured by Chinese automotive company, Geely Auto
We can expect the vehicle to tout a similar look to the SUV from China, with some tweaks that showcase its Proton identity.
Some additional features we can expect the exterior of the car to have are LED headlamps, L-shaped daytime-running lamps (DRL), as well as LED rail rights.
