If you or your parents regularly collect medication from a government hospital or health clinic, there's a good chance you don't actually need to queue at the pharmacy counter every time
Several Ministry of Health hospitals and clinics nationwide offer convenient collection services for repeat medications, including medicine lockers, drive-thru pickup, and even home delivery.
These services recently gained attention after a netizen highlighted how many elderly patients were still spending hours waiting in line at hospitals to collect their medication
"Guys, please, please. Register for MyUBAT if you or your parents take medication from government hospitals. It's a pity seeing old people having to line up to take medication and wait for a long time. Sometimes even with little kids in tow.
"I use this app every time I take my mom's medicine at Ampang Hospital. I just have to pick it up from a locker. Please make this viral to reduce congestion in hospitals," wrote a netizen on Threads.
MyUBAT allows patients to collect repeat prescriptions without waiting at pharmacy counters
It is an official mobile app developed by the Ministry of Health to help patients manage repeat medication supplies and access Pharmacy Value-Added Services.
Instead of joining the queue at a hospital or clinic pharmacy every other month, eligible patients can arrange for their medication to be prepared in advance and collected through their preferred method.
MyUBAT currently offers several collection options:
– Medicine by Post (Ubat Melalui Pos): Have medications delivered directly to your home.
– Drive-Thru & Park-and-Take Services: Schedule a collection date and pick up your medication quickly from your designated facility.
– Medicine Lockers (Locker4U): Collect medications from secure lockers at participating hospitals and clinics at your convenience.
The initiative was introduced to make medication collection easier and more efficient, particularly for elderly patients, caregivers, and those with mobility or transportation challenges.
Here's how to apply for drive-thru, locker, or postal collection on MyUBAT
To use the services, you'll first need to download the MyUBAT app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. Patients can also access the MyUBAT WebApp online.
The general process typically goes like this:
– Contact the Pharmacy: Notify your hospital's pharmacy via MyUBAT at least a few days before your medication runs out.
– Verify Details: Provide your patient number, IC number, prescription details, and preferred collection date and time.
– Receive Confirmation: Wait for a notification that your medicine is packed and ready.
– Pick up: Collect the medication through your selected method, whether that's a drive-thru lane, medicine locker, or postal delivery, and make any required payments.
It's important to note that MyUBAT only operates at Ministry of Health hospitals and health clinics
The service does not cover university hospitals such as Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (PPUM), Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz UKM (HUKM), or Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia (HUSM), military hospitals, or the National Heart Institute (IJN).
Patients should also be aware that postage costs for the Medicine by Post service are borne by the patient.
