Meta is testing a video-first layout on Facebook that opens directly to a full-screen video feed instead of the classic News Feed

However, users will have the option to opt out and switch back to the classic feed.

Facebook head Tom Alison explained that the platform is adapting to changing user habits.

"People are showing us that they want more immersive, visual, video-forward experiences, and video is where conversations are happening, communities are forming, and even commerce is starting to take place," Alison wrote in a blog post.

Testing will begin in select international markets this year, with a potential rollout in the US next year.

The redesign reflects Meta's continued push to strengthen its position in the short-form video market

The move comes as Reels generates over USD50 billion (RM220 billion) in annualised revenue, surpassing YouTube in ad sales. Instagram is also testing episodic video through a new TV app.

Facebook also announced a free Verified programme featuring identity badges for Facebook Dating and Marketplace.

Dedicated apps called Seller and Forum will launch for Marketplace power sellers and Groups, respectively

Alison noted that Facebook would continue evolving based on user feedback.

"The pattern that informs our products is always the same: people show us what they want through how they use the app. We listen, we learn, we experiment, and we evolve," he wrote.
