A 26-year-old tech influencer from China has turned science fiction into reality with a handcrafted manned hoverboard
Song Xingyu, better known online as Amazing Ayu, is a self-taught engineer from Hubei province who recently went viral for taking his ambitious DIY project into the sky.
On 15 October, Song shared breathtaking footage of his AI-monitored hoverboard gliding over mountains and city streets to the awe of many.
Getting this prototype airborne was a brutal journey for the creator, who originally left school at 14 to work in a lumberyard
After a previous micro turbojet version caught fire, Song rebuilt the machine from scratch despite facing massive financial setbacks.
According to South China Morning Post, a scam left him with a 2.4 million yuan (RM1.46 million) debt before tech company Insta360 intervened with 1.8 million yuan (RM1.09 million) in funding to keep the dream alive.
"I started with nothing, so what do I have to fear from failure? Moving forward courageously is the best choice," Song said.
