TikTok has introduced voice notes, photo carousels, Live Photos, and creator polls to its comment section
The platform borrowed features commonly found in messaging apps to make the comment section a place where users linger and chat, rather than just dropping a quick reaction.
"Sound and music have shaped TikTok from the very beginning, turning songs into trends and audio clips into jokes shared across the app," the company announced in a blog post.
To drop a voice comment, simply tap the microphone icon in the text box and record a message for up to one minute
Once uploaded, anyone in the thread can tap and listen. A TikTok spokesperson confirmed that voice comments must follow the platform's Community Guidelines.
The company relies on human moderators and automated tools, such as speech-to-text transcription, to filter out policy-violating content.
This specific feature will roll out globally over the next month for users aged 18 and older.
Creators can now drop polls in the comments of their own videos
The platform suggests using polls for voting on video ideas, outfit choices, or cooking plans. Creators can set up to five voting options, pick a timeframe, and track the results in real time.
Visually, the comment section also received a major boost. Users can now share up to nine photos in a single photo carousel comment, a big jump from the previous one-photo limit.
TikTok has also enabled Live Photo comments globally
This feature adds a "brief burst of motion", giving users a quick preview of a moment before they tap to view the full image.
While Live Photos are already available, the swipeable photo carousels will continue rolling out globally over the coming month.
