Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) officially expanded its local vehicle lineup on 13 July with the national debut of the all-new Volkswagen Tayron
Locally assembled at the Volkswagen manufacturing plant in Pekan, Pahang, the three-row, seven-seater SUV sits strategically between the compact Tiguan and the flagship Touareg. Volkswagen is offering the model in two distinct trim levels: the refined Elegance and the sportier, performance-oriented R-Line.

The Tayron Elegance carries an official recommended retail price of RM189,890, which moves to RM199,990 when bundled with the Volkswagen Assurance Package (VAP) covering five years of maintenance, manufacturer warranty, and roadside assistance.

Meanwhile, the top-tier Tayron R-Line is currently open for public preview ahead of its commercial release, with estimated pricing spanning between RM259,000 and RM269,000. In conjunction with the upcoming 69th Merdeka celebrations, the distributor is offering an introductory package for the first 69 buyers that includes seven years of free maintenance, personal accident and key protection, alongside entry into a luxury vacation lucky draw.

This SUV packs a strong punch for daily driving
Under the bonnet, the Elegance variant utilises a 1.5-litre eTSI mild-hybrid powertrain that develops 150PS and 250Nm of torque. The engine combines a 48-volt belt-driven starter-alternator with Active Cylinder Management (ACTplus) technology, which automatically deactivates two cylinders during light-load cruising to lower fuel consumption.
Drivers seeking greater performance can look towards the R-Line variant, which packs a 2.0-litre TSI turbocharged engine producing 265 PS and 400 Nm of torque delivered to all four wheels through Volkswagen's 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system. Both powertrains pair with a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission and feature Dynamic Chassis Control Pro (DCC Pro) adaptive suspension.
The Tayron's practicality is one of its strong suits

In terms of interior versatility, the Tayron accommodates seven passengers across three seating rows, providing up to 1,905 litres of cargo space when both rear rows are folded flat.
Cabin comfort is elevated via Varenna leather ergoActive Plus front seats equipped with 12-way power adjustments, heating, ventilation, and a 10-cushion pneumatic massage system.

The driver cockpit centres on a 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro display alongside a rotary multi-function console controller. The Elegance houses a 12.9-inch Discover touchscreen with an eight-speaker audio system, whereas the R-Line upgrades to a 15-inch Discover Pro Max display, a head-up display, and a 700-watt 11-speaker Harman Kardon premium sound system.

Safety remains a primary focus for the new model, which secured a maximum five-star rating in Euro NCAP safety assessments
Ratings included 87% for Adult Occupant Protection, 85% for Child Occupant Protection, 83% for Vulnerable Road Users, and 80% for Safety Assist systems, highlighting the Tayron's track record as a safe car.

Both variants come standard with nine airbags, including an innovative front-centre airbag designed to prevent front occupants from colliding during severe side impacts, and the comprehensive IQ.DRIVE suite featuring Adaptive Cruise Control, Travel Assist, Lane Assist, and Front Assist with pedestrian and cyclist monitoring.
