X Is Giving Away Free Blue Ticks To Users With Large Followings
The policy shift comes amid X's falling ad revenue and user metrics.
If you have over 2,500 verified subscriber followers on X, you stand a chance to get a blue tick for free
In a significant policy shift, X, previously known as Twitter, is now offering free subscriptions and blue ticks to its influential users.
AFP reported that X's biggest shareholder, Elon Musk, said that "going forward, all X accounts with over 2,500 verified subscriber followers will get Premium features for free and accounts with over 5,000 will get Premium+ for free."
Perks for Premium or Premium+ include reduced ads and higher placement on X's feeds. Influential users will also gain access to Grok, X's AI chatbot.

Prior to this, the blue tick was reserved as a verification system for journalists, celebrities, and institutions.
However, Elon Musk, who took over Twitter and rebranded it as X in 2022, saw the verification system as unfair to regular users. He began charging a subscription fee for blue ticks and removed it from other prominent users.
This led many to leave the platform in droves, causing ad revenue to plummet.
