A woman from Terengganu has been remanded for seven days for allegedly stabbing a man who she claims kidnapped and raped her

The woman, 28, was arrested under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

"Police obtained a seven-day remand order to detain the woman to facilitate our investigation into the murder of the 45-year-old man. The remand order ends on 9 April," the New Straits Times quoted Kelantan police chief Datuk Muhammad Zaki Harun as saying yesterday, 4 April.

The remand order was obtained at Kuala Krai Magistrate's Court under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code, under which suspects can be detained for more than 24 hours to enable the police to complete investigations.

Meanwhile, Terengganu police said that the woman had lodged a report on 28 March after she allegedly escaped from the man

According to the New Straits Times, Terengganu police chief Datuk Mazli Mazlan said the report was lodged in Setiu, where the woman stated that the man had kidnapped and taken her to Kelantan.

"She claimed that she managed to escape from the man's custody. She told police that a scuffle broke out between them in Manek Urai," he said, adding that the woman was arrested after she lodged the report.

She was handed over to the Kelantan police on 1 April.
