Xiaomi’s New Phone Is Like A Mash-Up Of The Galaxy S8 And iPhone 7
The latest flagship smartphone from the Chinese phone maker is here.
Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has unveiled its latest flagship device and boy, it's packed with some pretty impressive features
"China's Apple" is looking to disrupt the smartphone market by doing what it does best - producing great smartphones at cheap prices.
The phone, unveiled on 19 April at an event in Beijing, is the successor to last year's Mi 5.
For starters, the Mi 6 comes with a 5.15-inch 1080p IPS LCD display which promises crystal clear visuals
It also sports a four-sided curved glass with an ultra reflective mirror finish. If you have an obsession with symmetry and straight lines, you'd be delighted to know that the card slots and volume keys on either sides are perfectly aligned.
The Mi 6 also comes with a glass fingerprint sensor underneath the home button.
On the bottom, there are speaker grilles on either side of the USB Type-C port and no headphone jack (gasp!)
Following the steps of the iPhone 7 and a number of Android devices, Xiaomi has ditched the 3.5mm headphone jack which means you'd need a Bluetooth or USB Type-C earphones.
The phone is also splash-resistance so it should be able to withstand splashes of water with no problem.
The most impressive aspect of the Mi 6 has got to be its processor. The phone runs on a Snapdragon 835 chip, the latest entry in the Qualcomm's line of mobile processors, which was first debuted in the Samsung Galaxy S8.
The smartphone is also offered with 6GB of RAM that's capable of withstanding multitasking and heavy gaming. Storage wise, it comes with either 64GB or 128GB.
A dual-lens camera with 12-megapixel sensors is found at the back of the smartphone while there's an 8-megapixel shooter on the front.
The Mi 6 includes a 12-megapixel dual rear camera - à la the iPhone 7 + - which mixes a wide-angle lens and a telephoto lens. Like the iPhone, the Mi 6 has a bokeh-style photography option, alongside 10x digital zoom, 2x lossless zoom, and optical image stabilisation (OIS) technology.
Other features include a 3,350 mAh battery that's capable of lasting a full day on normal usage and Bluetooth 5.0
Bluetooth 5.0 is the next generation in Bluetooth technology. The Mi 6 joins the Galaxy S8 as the only two smartphones in the market that support Bluetooth 5.0.
The updated feature gives better range, speed, and broadcasting capacity.
The Xiaomi Mi 6 will first launch in China on 28 April. Coming in two variants, the entry-level model with 64GB storage will be priced at 2,499 yuan (RM1,599) while the 128GB higher-end model will come with a 2,899 yuan (RM1,855) price tag.
The device comes in black, blue, white and ceramic black colour options.
Xiaomi Malaysia has yet to announce its global rollout. Fingers crossed it will be soon!
