1. Only Matthew McConaughey can manage to take a yearbook photo that actually flatters his God-given good looks and charm. In all seriousness, he was actually nominated as "Most Handsome" in high school.

2. The actor actually harboured big dreams of being a criminal defence lawyer when he was in college. Obviously, that didn't work out, but he still got to tear courtrooms apart in A Time To Kill (1996) and The Lincoln Lawyer (2011)

3. Back in the 2000s, McConaughey was best known for appearing in quite a number of rom-coms. The best part is, he always plays douche-y characters we can't help but love... for reasons we have yet to figure out.

McConaughey appeared in How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days, The Wedding Planner, Failure to Launch, Fool's Gold, and Ghosts of Girlfriends Past before moving away from romantic comedies to take on more serious and complex roles in the 2010s, dubbed as the "McConaissance" by some critics.

4. The Hollywood star gave TV host Barbara Walters a foot rub following an interview in 2006 as a "thank you" because he was very happy with the way it was conducted. If we ever got a foot rub from McConaughey, we would never wash our feet ever again.

5. This man believes in the all-natural scent of man, ladies and gentlemen. That means he does not wear cologne nor deodorant, and it's been that way for more than 20 years.

6. The actor seems to be quite obsessed with playing the bongos. McConaughey actually went onstage to play with English rock band Cult when they performed in Austin, Texas in March 2012.

(Not so) Fun fact: In 1998, police were called to his Austin, Texas home after receiving complaints of the noise levels. When they arrived at his home, they found him stoned, naked and playing the bongos. McConaughey was booked on drug charges and for resisting arrest. The drug charges were later dropped, and he paid a fine for disturbing the peace.

7. He also really, really loves his music. What you're about to read next might blur the line between being sweet and just plain bizarre - McConaughey played Brazilian music for eight straight hours in the delivery room to help his wife, Camila Alves, give birth to their first child.

8. The actor once saved a little girl from a prowling coyote and resuscitated an unconscious woman with CPR. Talk about being a real-life hero!

The heartthrob actor is said to have spotted the animal circling the terrified tot and her mum as he walked through a Los Angeles park. The star scared off the coyote by shouting and running at it, according to a report in Britain's News of the World newspaper.

9. But wait, that’s not all! He also saved a cat from thugs who were planning to set it on fire and more recently, stopped a group of children from poking a baby seal with a stick before proceeding to giving them a long lecture about sea life.

10. The charitable actor auctioned off his 1971 Chevy Stingray Corvette on Ebay and donated all the money to Oprah's Angel Network Hurricane Katrina and Rita relief funds

The winning bid for Matthew McConaughey's 1971 Corvette Stingray convertible, auctioned for hurricane relief, was $61,600, according to the eBay website. The name of the winning bidder wasn't immediately released. The website indicated that 72 bids were received. McConaughey, a native of Texas, said he's donating all proceeds from last month's sale to Oprah Winfrey's Angel Network for Katrina and Rita recovery efforts.
