We may not be the country with the highest number of rape cases in the world, but Malaysia has definitely seen its fair share of horrible sex crimes, especially in the past year

In late 2015, the Women's Centre for Change (WCC) of Penang, revealed that a woman is being raped in Malaysia, every 35 minutes. Most of the victims are girls below the age of 16.

If that's not disturbing enough, on 28 July, Women, Family, and Community Development Minister Rohani Abdul Karim, said that 13,272 children have reportedly been raped in Malaysia between 2010 and May 2017, with the highest number of rape cases being in Johor.

Note: South Africa is dubbed as the rape capital of the world. There are reportedly 132.4 rapes per 100,000 people per year in the country.

Here are some of the most disturbing rape cases in Malaysia that happened in the past year:

The cases are numbered according to the timeline of the incidents - from the most recent one to the oldest.
