A 12-Year-Old Girl Was Drugged And Raped On Several Occasions By A Man She Met On WeChat
The man has been remanded into police custody for a week.
An unnamed 24-year-old man reportedly had sex with a Year Six pupil on several occasions after they met each other on WeChat
It was reported on 11 October that Alor Setar police were on the hunt for the man.
According to Kota Setar District Chief ACP Mohd Rozi Jidin, the man befriended the 12-year-old girl via WeChat a few months back and after getting to know her, he started drugging her with syabu to have sex with the underage girl.
They had sexual intercourse at various locations, including hotels, Rozi Jidin added.
The Chief ACP also said that the girl claimed that the man was her boyfriend.
"She told police she was offered syabu and that he had brought her to various places, including hotels and a house, to have sex," he told reporters on 10 October.
Their alleged "relationship" was first discovered by the girl's mother, who took her to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital for a check-up on Sunday, following which she lodged a police report on the same day
At the hospital, the underage girl tested positive for syabu. After the check-up, the staff told the mother that her daughter has new and old tears at her private parts.
Chief ACP Mohd Rozi, whose team raided the man's home on Sunday itself but failed to find him, said the suspect has a criminal record for drug abuse.
He, however, advised parents to keep a close eye on the activities of their children.
"Just imagine, only 12 years old and already exposed to drugs and sex," he added.
Based on a preliminary police investigation, Chief ACP Mohd Rozi revealed that the girl had previously befriended a few other men, who had taken advantage of her sexually since early this year
Police were able to finally arrest the man on 11 October, at about 3pm in a low-cost flat at Taman Setia Jaya in Jalan Langgar, the Chief ACP told media on Wednesday.
While the man tested negative for drug abuse, police applied for him to be remanded.
Following the police's request, Alor Setar Court Deputy Registrar Dalilah Ismail sent the unemployed man to remand for seven days beginning 12 October to facilitate the investigation into the case
Prior to this, on 10 October, a 40-year-old was arrested after taking a pregnant 12-year-old, whom he said is his "wife", to hospital:
