Doctor Strange is back!
And this time, he's packing a big punch.
Benedict Cumberbatch has returned to reprise his iconic role as Doctor Stephen Strange in the latest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. With the trailer dropping a couple of weeks ago, almost the entire world is looking forward to 6 May 2022.
Nevertheless, even die hard Marvel fans like myself can get confused watching Marvel content, as they often get intertwined with other plots in the MCU.
To ease your troubles, here are six Marvel movies and TV series you should catch up on on Disney+ Hotstar before the premiere of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, in chronological order:
1. Doctor Strange (2016)

Doctor Strange's introduction in the MCU was in the 2016 movie titled after him, in which the once talented neurosurgeon loses mobility in his fingers after a horrific accident.
In an attempt to restore that feeling, Strange travels to a foreign land full of mystery and complexity.
He quickly learns that his life will never be the same again as he becomes entangled in a battle against unseen dark forces bent on destroying reality.
2. Avengers: Infinity War (2018)

Fast forward some years into the future, Doctor Strange meets a new titan waiting to be tamed. He teams up with the Avengers to defeat Thanos, a genocidal warlord on the hunt for six Infinity Stones. These stones, when combined, create an unimaginable power that can literally wipe out half the population of the universe.
It is clear that Thanos will stop at nothing to complete his plan, and by the end of the film, you will be mourning over the future of all of Marvel's superheroes.
3. Avengers: Endgame (2019)

By the end of Avengers: Infinity War, Doctor Strange's fate is left in the air. Desperate to bring back their loved ones and allies, the remaining Avengers try to locate the evil demigod, Thanos.
After multiple bloody battles and lives sacrificed across the board, the doctor finally returns for the ultimate final showdown to take down Thanos.
4. Loki Season 1 (2021)

You may wonder how watching the God of Mischief, Loki, ties into Doctor Strange's story. While there were no indications that Loki would be present in the trailer of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, one thing is certain: the breaking of universe timelines will be their undoing.
In Loki, the titular character himself steals the Tesseract during the events of Avengers: Endgame, transporting him to a place controlled by an organisation beyond space and time. This sends him on a mission to catch the different antagonist who has been troubling the timelines. But of course, Loki's mischief gets him into a bit of trouble and makes you realise that Doctor Strange has a huge hurdle ahead of him for the upcoming 2022 film.
5. WandaVision (2021)

Set three weeks after the events of Avengers: Endgame, Wanda Maximoff and Vision seem to be living in different worlds of classic sitcoms. Everything takes place in the town of Westview. But as each episode of the series goes along, we start to notice that not all is what it seems.
The fact that Wanda appears in the trailer of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, with Strange himself mentioning Westview, ensures that WandaVision is crucial to the next instalment of the MCU.
6. Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)

Marvel's favourite doctor's most recent appearance is in Spider-Man: No Way Home, in which Peter Parker gets himself into a bit of trouble after his identity as Spider-Man is revealed to the world. In attempt to get his old life back, he asks Strange for help, which somehow backfires and could cost Parker everything he loves. After watching this film, you will truly realise how daunting the Multiverse of Madness may be.
The highest-grossing film of 2021 is still in theatres today, five months after it's initial release! Catch this blockbuster at selected TGV or GSC cinemas.
