Chris Martin Reveals Coldplay's Plan To Retire After Their 12th Album
Viva la vida.
Coldplay is set to retire after producing their 12th album, as confirmed by frontman Chris Martin in a recent interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music
"We are only going to do 12 proper albums, and that's real," Martin said, to which Lowe responded, "That's real, real?"
Martin doubled down, replying, "Yeah, promise promise."

Martin explained that the band is dedicated to this limit to ensure they maintain high-quality music throughout their career
Comparing their decision to some of their musical heroes, he said, "First of all, there are only seven Harry Potter [books]. There are only 12 and a half Beatles albums. There's about the same for Bob Marley — so all of our heroes."
By limiting their albums, Martin believes it allows for better quality control and keeps them from coasting through the creative process.

The idea of capping the band's discography has been on his mind for four to five years
He noted, "To make an album great as a band, it's such a lot of wrangling of people, and I want to give the others some of their lives for themselves."
Although the band will retire after their 12th album, Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman, and Will Champion will continue to collaborate on other projects.
"So, if we do something like that creatively, beyond touring, then it will be something different or it'll be a side thing. Or it'll be a compilation of things we haven't finished," Martin shared.
Coldplay's 10th album, Moon Music, will be released on 4 October, and Martin previously hinted that the band would release their final album in 2025
However, they may still continue to tour, even after their final album release — just without new material.
