Instead of filming in a far-off galaxy, the British pop-rock band, fronted by Chris Martin, chose to capture the energy of the Lion City.
The video, posted today, 7 February, showcases Coldplay performing on a custom-built floating stage in Marina Bay, surrounded by a small but enthusiastic crowd of local youth from diverse backgrounds.
With Marina Bay Sands, the Singapore Flyer, and Gardens by the Bay shining in the background, the setting feels almost like a postcard come to life.

Beyond the concert-like performance, the video takes viewers on a journey through Singapore's cityscape
It features well-known attractions such as Jewel Changi Airport and the S.E.A. Aquarium, as well as historical and everyday locations like Fort Canning Park, a MacPherson HDB estate, and Mountain Coffee in Geylang.

The music video was filmed in partnership with Warner Music Singapore and the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) during Coldplay's six sold-out shows in January 2024
So, turns out, it actually was a tourism ad. Sorta.
The video was directed by Los Angeles-based director Ben Mor, who also worked on Coldplay's 2015 music video Hymn for the Weekend, as well as videos for pop stars such as Britney Spears and Katy Perry.

In a statement, according to The Straits Times, the band shared their excitement: "While we were in Singapore, we shot the video and captured some of the amazing, young, vibrant people whom we had met.
"We are interested in shooting things in places we have never filmed before and mixing people up as much as possible. It was really fun to have a kind of dance party out in the middle of the water, just us and the otters."
