Baby Shark Is The First Ever Video To Reach 10 Billion Views On YouTube

The catchy singalong kids' song "Baby Shark Dance" has become the most viewed video on YouTube, surpassing 10 billion views on the platform earlier this week. South Korean education company Pinkfong tweeted the announcement on 13 January.

The video was uploaded to YouTube in June 2016 by Pinkfong and recorded by singer Hope Segoine who was 10 years old at the time. However, it's still unclear about who the original writer of the track is as it has long been a nursery rhyme, according to The Guardian.

By March 2020, the video had already collected over 4.6 billion views, making it one of YouTube's top five watched videos of all time. By November 2020, Baby Shark Dance had been viewed over 7.04 billion times, surpassing Luis Fonsi's Despacito in 2020 as the most viewed music video on YouTube and the most viewed video on YouTube overall.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, it became an animated Nickelodeon show, a Kellogg's cereal, a global merchandise licensing program, live tours throughout the world, interactive games, NFTs, and more.

A sing-along special titled Pinkfong & Baby Shark's Space Adventures was also released on Netflix in 2019 and the sequel is also in the works.

Beyond the entertainment world, in 2020, Baby Shark Dance was allegedly used as torture in an Oklahoma jail where inmates say they were forced to listen to it for up to four hours at a time.
