The Malaysia-born British actor brings Hollywood star power to Sarawak in No Taste Like Home With Antoni Porowski, now streaming on Disney+.

The six-part docuseries, hosted by Queer Eye's food and wine expert Antoni Porowski, takes celebrities on a deep dive into their ancestral culinary traditions.

And for Golding, that meant heading back to Borneo to explore his Iban roots — something that's sure to make Malaysians beam with pride.

Golding, best known for Crazy Rich Asians (2018), was born in Sarawak and has always embraced his Iban heritage

His mother is a member of the indigenous Iban tribe, and although he moved to England at the age of eight, he never lost touch with his roots.

He even has traditional Iban tattoos inked on his body as a tribute to his ancestry!

While Golding is no stranger to his heritage, the episode still managed to surprise him.

Porowski revealed in a Zoom interview with The Straits Times, that despite Golding's deep knowledge of his family history, he was introduced to new stories — such as a connection to actual headhunters in his lineage.

Oh, and an actual witch! Talk about discovering something unexpected on a family trip.

Of course, no cultural exploration is complete without food, and the duo had plenty of it!

One of Golding's favourite moments was eating freshly caught fish by the river, cooked with torch ginger. Porowski shared in the interview how the actor's face lit up with childlike excitement as he dug into the meal with his hands — a true kampung boy moment!

But Golding didn't just stick to the safe stuff. He also went all in and ate live sago grubs, a local delicacy.

While many would hesitate (or run the other way), he embraced it with enthusiasm. Porowski, on the other hand, politely declined.

His adventurous food moment? Trying durian for the first time, which he described as "overly ripe camembert blended with very sharp garlic". Love it or hate it, you know you're in Malaysia when durian is involved!

Beyond the food and fun, the trip had a profound impact on Golding

Porowski observed how being in that environment, meeting long-lost family members, and hearing their stories deepened the actor's connection to his heritage.

Despite his Hollywood success, Golding is still very much a proud Sarawakian at heart.
