Actress Emma Maembong has revealed that she and her husband, Muhammad Shazli Azhar, have divorced after four years of marriage

Emma, whose real name is Fatimah Rohani Ismail, shared that the separation was amicable and that her idah (waiting) period has already ended, reported Harian Metro yesterday, 7 October.

The 32-year-old actress' personal life has often been the subject of rumours and speculation. As such, she chose to remain silent about her marital troubles until now to avoid public scrutiny.

Emma, who is of Scottish descent on her mother's side, said she still uploaded photos with her pilot ex-husband on social media during their rough patch to protect their children's emotional wellbeing.

"I tried as much as possible to keep my personal matters hidden even though I received many calls from media friends," the popular actress told Harian Metro.

While Emma declined to share further details about the divorce, she said that she felt it was time to address the private matter publicly to put an end to any ongoing speculation

"For me, this breakup is not news worth being proud of, which is why I remained silent. However, because I received your call today, I think it's time to tell the public so that it will no longer be asked," she explained.

The actress, who married Shazli in February 2020, acknowledged that their marriage faced many challenges, but she is grateful that their relationship remains on good terms.

"Even though we are no longer together, our relationship is still good.

"We accept this divorce with open hearts and see it as a process for personal growth. Our focus now is on raising our children with love, and we will still participate in family activities together," Emma said.

Emma and Shazli have two sons together.

Meanwhile, earlier this year, Emma was embroiled in a controversy when rumours surfaced that a female artiste with two children was allegedly involved in partner-swapping, called "swinging"

But she denied the allegations and clarified that such rumours were baseless.

"People will say a lot of things about me. If I didn't do it, why should I respond? There is no need for me to respond when it's not true," Emma said.

Emma has often been at the centre of gossip throughout her career, including claims about her lifestyle and choice of attire. Despite this, she has maintained a positive outlook.

"I have faced so much slander and accusations, so much so they're like my 'best friends'. My 'close friends'. So, how do we deal with it?

"Even when I took off my hijab, there were many edited pictures of me. But, when I look back, I thought to myself, 'Wow, I'm beautiful!'. Even then, I didn't make any comments," she added.
