Stan Lee Is The Funny Old Uncle Who's In Every Marvel Movie. Here Are All 35 Of His Cameos

It's a sad day for comic book fans all over the world. Stan Lee, creator of pop culture icons like Spider-Man, the Avengers, and X-Men, has died at the age of 95

Aside from his work in the comics industry, Stan Lee's cameos in Marvel movies have become one of the most endearing things audiences look forward to.

Here are the 35 times the comic book legend has popped up in a Marvel live-action film:

Note: The following list encompasses Stan Lee's appearances in movies that were released theatrically and includes those that are not part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). 

1. X-Men (2000)

He appeared as a hot dog vendor who was struck speechless when the newly-mutated Senator Kelly emerged naked from the sea after escaping Magneto.

2. Spider-Man (2002)

He appeared when the Green Goblin launched an attack at the World Unity Fair, in which he pulled a little girl away from falling debris. 

3. Daredevil (2003)

Matt Murdock (a.k.a. future Daredevil) saves Lee's distracted old man from crossing the street and getting hit by a bus. 

4. Hulk (2003)

He played a security guard in Bruce Banner's lab, in an early scene in the movie alongside former Hulk Lou Ferrigno. It was also Lee's first speaking cameo in a film based on a character he created. 

5. Spider-Man 2 (2004)

Continuing his stint as a heroic passerby, Lee saved a woman from falling debris during Spider-Man's first battle with Doc Ock. 

6. Fantastic Four (2005)

He appeared as mailman Willie Lumpkin, a character he created for the comics of the same name. Willie greets the Fantastic Four as they enter the Baxter Building. 

7. X-Men: The Last Stand (2006)

He appeared in a flashback scene as one of Jean Grey's neighbours, who was watering the lawn when Jean telekinetically redirects the water from the hose into the air. 

8. Spider-Man 3 (2007)

Peter Parker and Lee's "Man in Time Square" are reading a news bulletin about Spider-Man, after which he commented to Peter that, "You know, I guess one person can make a difference," followed by his catchphrase, "'Nuff said."

9. Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007)

He popped up at Reed Richards' (Mr. Fantastic) and Susan Storm's (Invisible Woman) first wedding as himself, only to be turned away by the security guard 'coz his name was not in the guest list. 

10. Iron Man (2008)

Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark mistakes Lee (playing himself) for Playboy founder Hugh Hefner. 

11. The Incredible Hulk (2008)

Credited as "Milwaukee man drinking from bottle", Lee accidentally drinks a soft drink contaminated with Bruce Banner a.k.a. the Hulk's blood. 

12. Iron Man 2 (2010)

Tony Stark mistakes Lee for yet another famous person, this time mistakenly greeting him as famed TV host "Larry King". 

13. Thor (2011)

He appeared at the site where Mjolnir landed on Earth, attempting to pull Thor's hammer out of the ground with a chain tied to his pickup truck.

14. Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)

He appeared as a World War II general who mistook another man for Captain America / Steve Rogers, saying, "I thought he'd be taller."

15. Avengers (2012)

Lee appeared as a cynical old man who was interviewed after the Avengers saved Manhattan from the Chitauri attack.

In a deleted scene, he chided Steve Rogers for not asking a waitress for her number after she flirts with him.

Lee's school librarian is obliviously listening to classical music as Spider-Man and Lizard battled it out behind him. 

17. Iron Man 3 (2013)

Lee gives a beauty pageant contestant a perfect 10 on a television monitor. 

18. Thor: The Dark World (2013)

Lee appeared as a patient in a mental institution who lent his shoe to Erik Selvig (played by Stellan Skarsgård).

19. Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)

He played a security guard at the Smithsonian Institute who discovered that Captain America's World War II uniform had been stolen from the exhibit. 

20. Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)

He appeared as an elderly gentleman chatting up a younger woman when Rocket Racoon was surveying Xandar with his scanning device. 

21. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014)

Lee attends Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy's high school graduation, and even recognises Peter. 

22. Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)

Lee played a World War II veteran who had to be carried out of an Avengers party after indulging in a shot of Asgardian liquor from Thor. 

23. Ant-Man (2015)

Lee appeared as a bartender in a story Luis told Scott Lang / Ant-Man about Sam Wilson / Falcon looking for him. 

24. Deadpool (2016)

25. Captain America: Civil War (2016)

Lee appeared as a FedEx postman delivering a package from Steve Rogers to "Tony Stank". 

26. X-Men: Apocalypse (2016)

Lee made his first appearance in the rebooted X-Men universe alongside his real wife Joan. The couple appeared during a scene where Apocalypse launched nuclear weapons into space.

27. Doctor Strange (2016)

Lee was engrossed in his book, oblivious that Doctor Strange and Mordo just went splat on the bus window. 

28. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017)

Lee appeared as an astronaut telling The Watchers about stint as a deliveryman in Civil War, seemingly confirming that he himself is one of the beings tasked to watch over the multiverse. 

29. Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)

Lee appeared as an annoyed neighbour called Gary, who scolded Spider-Man for mistakenly accosting an innocent civilian. 

30. Thor: Ragnarok (2017)

In one of the funniest scenes in the movie, Lee played one of the Grandmaster's servants who was tasked to cut off Thor's lovely golden locks (and made the God of Thunder scream in terror). 

31. Black Panther (2018)

Lee popped up as a patron in a casino in South Korea, taking T'Challa's chips when the King of Wakanda moved away from the table to tail Ulysses Klaue. 

32. Deadpool 2 (2018)

Lee didn't exactly show up in person, but he was featured in a giant graffiti as Domino is flying over the city during the X-Force sequence.

33. Avengers: Infinity War (2018)

Lee played a pedestrian whose car got shrunk by Wasp.

Prior to his death, Lee appeared as a dog walker who encouraged Eddie Brock to not give up on his relationship with Anne Weying.  

The comic book legend has also filmed his cameo for the upcoming fourth Avengers movie, which is slated for release in April next year.
