The Addams Family is back! Well, maybe just one of them... for now.

On Monday, 6 June, Netflix released the teaser for their upcoming horror comedy series titled Wednesday (2022), based on the only daughter of America's favourite macabre family, Wednesday Addams.

Looking dark and mysterious, this isn't Ortega's first time operating within the confines of humour and terror, having starred in features such as Scream 5 (2022) and You (2018-present).

Directed by Tim Burton, with show-runners and producers Al Gough and Miles Millar, this series sets the scene for a coming-of-age supernatural mystery. We'll see Wednesday focus on her years as a high school student at Nevermore Academy, and attempt to master her psychic power to stop a monstrous killing spree of the town citizens, which include solving the supernatural mystery that affected her family 25 years ago — all while navigating her new relationships.

In the teaser, we also got a glimpse of the return of another Addams Family legend, Thing! This horribly disfigured creature was too ugly to see in person, to where the only tolerable part that everyone could bare was his human hand.

Set to be released in the final quarter of 2022, this series is said to don an ensemble cast of diverse stars

Among some of the principal characters expected to make an appearance in the series are Catherine Zeta-Jones, who plays Morticia Addams, the matriarch of the Addams family, and Luis Guzmán, who will play Gomez Addams, the patriarch of the family.

But the most surprising addition to the series was that of Christina Ricci — whom fans will recognise as having played the revised version of Wednesday Addams in the 1991 feature film, The Addams Family

While her character has not yet been released to the public, it's safe to assume that she will not be reprising her role of Wednesday per Ortega's confirmed casting reveal. Nonetheless, fans are delighted to see her return to the Addams family in some capacity.

Wednesday's original character traits was that a sweet-natured and charismatic young girl per New York comic artist, Charles Addams, in 1938, and the followup television series, The Addams Family, in 1964. However, Ricci's interpretation spun this character on her head in the 1991 adaptation.

The change in Wednesday's characteristics to deadpan, sarcastic, and sadistic, has since made her an iconic character to moviegoers everywhere, all due to the excellence of Ricci's portrayal. Some go as far as to say that the legendary depiction contributed to the creation of the sequel, Addams Family Values (1993).
