'Upin & Ipin' Is Running For An Oscar Nomination Against 31 Other Big Animated Movies

Local animated movie 'Upin & Ipin: Keris Siamang Tunggal' is currently being considered for an Oscars nomination under the Animated Feature Film category

The Malaysia-made movie is among 32 animated films that have been submitted for the Oscars race, reported New Straits Times.
Only five movies will be nominated, which will be announced in January next year. The 92nd Academy Awards ceremony will be held on 24 February 2020.
'Upin & Ipin' is currently fighting for a nomination spot along with bigshots from Disney, DreamWorks, Sony, and Warner Bros

Produced by local production company Les' Copaque Production, 'Upin & Ipin' will be up against:
- Toy Story 4,
- Frozen 2,
- How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World,
- The Angry Birds Movie 2,
- The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part,
- Weathering With You', and more.
'Upin & Ipin' premiered in March this year and was also released in China, Indonesia, Vietnam, Uzbekistan, and India.
The movie made RM25 million in the local box office within the first three weeks and won a film award in Canada
It was awarded the Best Film Story at the 2019 International Animation Film Festival (Animaze) in Montreal, Canada last month, reported Astro Awani.
'Upin & Ipin: The Lone Gibbon Kris', the movie's English title, won against hundreds of movies from 65 countries.
The movie's producers thanked Malaysians for the tremendous support after the movie was listed for an Oscars nomination

"'Upin & Ipin: Keris Siamang Tunggal' is listed together with 32 international animation films for the 2020 Oscar nomination," Les’ Copaque Production wrote in a Facebook post, which has almost 2,000 reactions at the time of writing.
"Thank you, Malaysians for the extraordinary support for the movie."
