Nonetheless, local authorities are happy that that the old statue has been attracting a lot of attention

According to The Borneo Post, Bukit Semuja assemblyperson John Ilus was pleased that Serian is now known amongst netizens nationwide, especially since the statue was also recently repainted.

Serian District Council chairperson Lim Hock Meng told the local daily that he was pleasantly surprised the statue has been attracting attention since its been in the town for many years.

They both welcomed people from all over to visit the town and to take photos with their peculiar icon. The animal's interesting expression, however, was not explained.
