Hong Kong Airport: You Can Leave Devices & Liquids In Bags During Screening Starting July

From July onwards, travellers leaving Hong Kong's airport will no longer need to take out their devices or liquids from their bags for screening as required by the existing protocol.
According to a Hong Kong International Airport press release on 26 June, "passengers can keep their laptops and mobile phones, as well as liquids, aerosols, and gels in their carry-on luggage".
"The streamlined procedure is enabled by the latest 3D and 360-degree CT-based X-ray scanning technology, as opposed to the existing system's 2D capability," reads the statement.

The new system will also be equipped with other passenger-friendly functions, including "auto tray recirculation, in-built tray sterilisation, and automatic alert to passengers for uncollected items on the tray"
Hong Kong International Airport will be world's first to operate smart security screening channels throughout the entire airport.
"For passengers who fail to clear the archway metal detector, further screening will be conducted in a new full-body scanner, replacing the existing manual search that uses a hand-held detector," the statement added.
The full-body scanner will be able to accurately locate concealed items while reducing physical contact between staff and passengers.

The new passenger screening system will feature 50 channels and 32 full-body scanners.
They will be installed and put into service in phases, starting 2 July.
The first batch will be installed at the South and North Departures Immigration Halls in Terminal 1.
