Malaysian teen and self-taught photographer Ling Hou Wah started 2022 with a bang after one of his photos was featured on Apple's Instagram account

On the first day of 2022, 1 January, Apple — which boasts over 27 million followers — shared Ling's photo on Instagram.

"Take a step back and look at the big picture," writes the most valuable company in the world.

Quoting Ling for the rest of the caption, the post continues, "This is the view from the top of an observation tower. The pier was right in front of us and I saw this girl sitting alone, overlooking the whole lake. It was a lost and peaceful feeling."

Speaking to SAYS, Ling said the photo was taken almost a year ago on 10 January 2021.

It was shot at Kepong Metropolitan Park, Kuala Lumpur.

The secondary school student from Puchong, Selangor took the photo with his iPhone 12 Pro Max and edited it with Adobe Lightroom.

He added that it was not a drive-by photo as he went to the park on purpose to practise photography.

"I believe the person in the photo was part of a group taking wedding photos at the pier. I wanted to achieve a minimalist shot so I decided to just focus on the person looking at the water. For me, the picture is about the sense of calmness," he told LifestyleTech.

The 17-year-old from SMK Seksyen 4 Bandar Kinrara said he started developing an interest in photography in November 2018, adding that he learnt most of his skills from online blogs

He shares that his favourite photographer is Patrick Heart, a local photographer whose photos often grab headlines in Malaysia.

Other than taking photos with his iPhone, Ling also uses a drone — DJI Mavic 2 Pro — to take stunning ariel photos.

At the time of writing, his photo that was featured on Apple's Instagram profile has garnered almost 10,000 likes.
