Whether you're travelling solo or in a group, it's important to always be aware of your surroundings
A woman, Allie Lovegood, who goes by @lovegood_allie on TikTok, shared a clip of safety tips to take note of when you're staying in a hotel room. According to her, hotel rooms may not be as safe as we might think.
Her TikTok has since garnered over 8.9 million plays and two million likes.
Here are some of her hotel security tips for the next time you travel:
1. Check if there's a two-way mirror by placing your finger against it

A two-way mirror is a panel of glass that is reflective on one side but is clear on the other. So someone could easily watch you from the non-mirror end.
One way to check if there's a two-way mirror in the room is to place your finger against it. If there is a gap between your reflection and your fingertip, then you're safe. If there isn't, then it might be a two-way mirror.
2. Put an ironing board at the door handle to lock it when you're inside the room

Hotel room latches can be easily opened from the outside with a piece of string or wire, she explained. To prevent this from happening, you can jam the ironing board against the door handle.
This can be easily removed on your side but will prevent people on the outside from entering your room.
3. Request for a room by the staircase instead of the elevator

She explained that if anything happens in the building and you need to escape as quickly as possible, it's easier to use the stairs instead of relying on the elevator.
So try to request for a room nearest to the staircase and not the elevator.
4. Check for hidden cameras in the room by turning off all the lights

Make sure the room is completely dark. Then, turn on your phone camera and use a flashlight to look for any small lights near air vents, mirrors, and furniture.
If there is a camera, you will spot a glare on your smartphone screen. The infrared light will appear on your phone screen as a pulsing dot.
Many people thanked her for sharing, while some elaborated on her tips
