Meet Mohamad Hazreel Mazlan, who is an employee at a trading company by day, and a barista and coffee store owner by night

Hazreel started his business with a relatively small capital by turning his family car, a Honda CRV, into his DIY café.

Prior to opening Lujayns Coffee at Wangsa Melawati, Kuala Lumpur, Hazreel was a part-time e-hailing driver.

According Bernama, he spent about RM15,000 to buy a coffee maker, espresso machine, coffee grinder, and a small generator to launch his business.

"Since it's a family car, I couldn't fix racks in the boot... I had to choose something that was moveable, that's why I got the wooden pallet, which is easy for me to put in and take out (of the boot) and to clean up the space as well," he shared.

The inspiration to open his car boot mobile café came after he met the coffee entrepreneur behind Kopi Rumah, who also used his car as his business platform

"I used to go café hopping, and that was when I happened to meet the owner of Kopi Rumah, who sold coffee from his car boot.

"I then embarked on doing some research and looked for similar businesses operating throughout Malaysia. I also spent a night at a certain location to study how they operated their businesses out of their car boots," related Hazreel.

With the encouragement from his friends and valuable tips from Kopi Rumah's owner, Hazreel started his coffee venture after learning the techniques of making different types of coffees from YouTube videos and reading materials.

Speaking to SAYS, Hazreel said the earnings made from his store will be used to fund his wedding

"Actually, the number of sales are hard to determine. Sometimes, we sell up to 20 cups, and sometimes we sell less than 10 cups because we operate only four hours at night, a very limited time.

"(I run the business) just to earn extra money for our wedding," Hazreel said.
