The government plans to introduce a targeted subsidy programme for petrol and diesel, set to be implemented in January next year

Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli told parliament yesterday, 6 November, that this initiative will utilise three distinct mechanisms to ensure efficient and fair distribution of these subsidies to the rakyat.

He emphasised that the targeted subsidy programme will coincide with the launch of the Central Database Hub (PADU) system in January next year. This comprehensive system will play a pivotal role in coordinating and managing the distribution of subsidies, reported New Straits Times.

Individual net disposable income

The first mechanism is based on an individual's net disposable income. This approach aims to provide subsidies according to an individual's financial situation, ensuring that those in will receive assistance.

Net disposable household income

The second mechanism considers the net disposable household income, incorporating social protection or assistance schemes. This method takes into account the income of the entire household, ensuring that families facing financial difficulties receive the necessary support, the minister explained.
