A three-year-old boy died after falling from the second floor of a shophouse that was undergoing renovation in Bau, Sarawak, on Sunday, 14 April

According to China Press, the shophouse in Siniawan did not have windowpanes installed yet when the boy was playing at the renovation site.

Bau police chief DSP Jawai Francis Kempas said the police were notified about the incident by Bau Hospital's emergency department at 2.20pm.

"Based on the investigation on the child's mother, who is Indonesian, it was said that on the same day at around 8.30am, she had brought her son to her husband's workplace at a construction site in Siniawan.

"The mother was not aware that the victim had fallen as she was helping her husband work," The Borneo Post quoted her as saying.

When the medical response unit arrived at the scene, they found the victim bleeding from his mouth and nose

The victim was also in a semi-conscious state, reported Sin Chew Daily.

He was rushed to the hospital, but succumbed to his injuries three hours later. According to the doctors, he had sustained a fractured skull and internal bleeding.

His body was later sent to Sarawak General Hospital for further action.

"Early investigation found no criminal elements in the incident. Further investigation is being carried out to determine the cause of death," Jawai said.

The case has been classified as sudden death, reported The Borneo Post.
