On Saturday, a 49-year-old Chinese man was rescued by the joint effort of Bomba and police personnel after he threatened to jump while standing on the edge of the sixth floor of Suria KLCC

The rescue effort lasted for more than two hours, during which safety personnel from the fire department and police kept trying to talk the man out of jumping off.

According to City Fire and Rescue Department director, Nordin Pauzi, his department had received a distress call at 4.52pm about the incident.

"Fifteen personnel from Jalan Tun Razak and Hang Tuah stations were deployed to the scene. Upon arrival, the team saw a man attempting to jump from the sixth floor of the mall. They then installed a net on the first floor as a precautionary measure," he said.

The safety personnel's effort paid off when at around 7.03pm, the team managed to persuade him and handed him to the police for further action.

Below are the some of the details that have emerged about the man.

1.

About an hour before the man went over the edge of the shopping mall's sixth floor's main corridor barrier and threatened to jump if anyone went near him, he had met with Democratic Action Party's (DAP) Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng.

Taking to his Facebook page, Lim shared an article about the man's attempted suicide, writing that while they met at his office, he was unable to agree to the man's demand.

2.

Lim revealed that as he couldn't help the man right away because he had a meeting to attend to, he had asked the man to leave his number so that he can reach him later.

However, the man got angry at Lim and started yelling. He left Lim's office without sharing his number. According to China Press, the man wanted Lim to accompany with him to the police station to lodge a report as he did not speak Malay.

3.

According to Bomba and police personnel present at the scene, the man is believed to be suffering from mental health issues. He kept talking about different problems he has been facing in his life, however, he couldn't keep to one story.

He complained that his wife divorced him and took their child with her, adding that he did not know where to go from here.

Later, he claimed that he was hypnotised by a woman in her 50s and who misused his credit cards. He said the same woman cheated him out of RM60K and that he lodged a police report about it on 22 November, however, he retracted it later.

4.

On the railing, the man kept yelling at the people present that he wanted to meet a specific MP. However, no one could confirm if it was the Kepong MP the man wanted to see.

Although, he kept saying that if the said MP arrives at the scene, he won't jump off. During this time, a policeman managed to distract him and bomba rushed to pull him in.

Disturbingly, the people who were at the scene yesterday were seen ridiculing the man. Tweets and videos on social media showed them laughing at him, some of them even asked him to jump off.

A Twitter thread does a good job in detailing how certain people reacted to the troubled man's attempted suicide and their reaction when he was rescued.

Suicide is never the option.
