Earlier this week, a five-year-old girl was run over by her school van twice outside her grandmother's house in Skudai, Johor

According to Sin Chew Daily, the incident happened at noon on 23 October after the van had dropped off the kindergarten pupil at her grandmother's home.

Johor Bahru Utara ACP police chief Mohd Taib Ahmad confirmed that there were five other children in the van at the time of the incident.

The moment the girl walked in front of the van to get to her grandmother's house.

The 48-year-old driver first ran the girl over as the latter was walking around the van to get to her grandmother's house

"The van, driven by a woman, ran over (the girl) as she was crossing in front of it to get to her grandmother's house," Mohd Taib was quoted as saying by Malay Mail.

Sin Chew Daily reported that the driver then reversed her van over the girl's body after shouting for the grandmother.

The van drove into the girl just as she was walking in front of it.

The girl succumbed to injuries after she was rushed to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital

The girl died about an hour after the incident.

The van driver was detained under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving, but has since been released on police bail.

The girl's 70-year-old grandmother revealed that she had requested the van driver on multiple occasions to avoid letting her granddaughter walk around the vehicle

Sin Chew Daily reported the grandmother as saying that she had asked the driver to make sure that the van faces the house gate so her granddaughter would not need to walk in front of the vehicle.

Moreover, she claimed that the driver usually leaves only after her granddaughter reaches the house gate

A teacher at the girl's kindergarten also told Sin Chew Daily that the driver had been sending pupils to and from their homes for seven years.

Following the incident, the teacher assured that the van driver will no longer be allowed to send children to the kindergarten.
